Fairtrade-certified avocados bring sustainable empowerment to East African producers
Home » Sustainability » Fairtrade
We have secured some markets for Fairtrade-certified avocados with our buyer, Eosta BV. This is very good news to producers in East Africa who are willing to come together and form a common marketing approach that seeks to secure fair prices that are also sustainable.
The Fairtrade Standards are designed to tackle poverty and empower producers in the poorest countries in the world. The standards apply to both producers and traders.
Invariably, Fairtrade also seeks to address important social, economic, and environmental issues in contemporary times.
Why Fairtrade?
Farmers
- As a farmer, you are assured of fair prices normally higher than the prevailing produce prices.
- In addition, farmers’ organizations are paid premiums on top of normal prices, and these are additional incomes that also assist in the supporting projects that support them and their communities. Examples are boreholes that provide clean water and are within reach.
- A capacity-building model that equips farmers with knowledge of trade, basic bookkeeping, and synergies that realize economies of scale.
Consumers
- You are assured of social and ethically produced products.
- Transparency invariably promotes fairness in pricing in the supply chain and effective traceability.
- Safe and quality assurance food products with a demonstrable visibility.
- Environmental sound production.
- Your purchase of Fairtrade products significantly improves farmers’ social and economic well-being in the developing world.
- Contribute to decent working conditions and workers’ earnings.
