Caring for our own
Our Farmers
Creating a fair and equitable playing field
The Fairtrade movement has had a profound and positive impact on global producers. It aims to ensure farmers in developing nations are fairly compensated for their hard work, dedication, and expertise. We at Mavuno share this aim.
We’re undertaking our Fairtrade certification journey to achieve the ultimate transparency, fair pricing, and equitability. This way, every success we enjoy can be shared by every Mavuno farmer.
Living Wages and Incomes: Our Journey
Supporting our workers with living wages
We are proud pioneers in Kenya’s organic produce industry. Our businesses, farms, and growers are all dedicated to achieving the pinnacle of organic farming practices. We ensure all our farmers know climate change and support them in mitigating its effects.
We provide training, knowledge, and resources, cultivating a mindset of collective care for our planet so that each of our farmers is driven to protect our environment by adopting sustainable farming systems.
Achieving Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), created by the United Nations in 2015, provide an actionable framework to propel the planet toward a more equitable and sustainable future. There are 17 goals total, and at Mavuno, we can impact several spheres within them. We’re pleased to report our contribution to the following SDGs:
No poverty
We’re taking great strides on our Fairtrade journey and offer a high living wage that goes above and beyond legislative requirements. We connect our producers with invaluable opportunities and new markets and provide steady work for our team.
Zero hunger
By paying our workers and farmers a high living wage, we provide the income they need to keep themselves and their families well-nourished and well-fed.
Good Health and Wellbeing
We care deeply about our people’s health and well-being and take steps to protect the safety of their work environments.
Quality Education
Our dedication to education is two-fold. First, with a high living wage, we’re supporting our workers to support their children’s education. Second, we focus on our workers’ education providing the equipment, expertise, and professional development they need to succeed.
Gender Equality
From our internal workplace to our more comprehensive supply chain, we enforce strong policies and rigorous practices to ensure that people of all genders are respected as equals.
Decent Work & Economic Growth
We provide steadfast employment, safe work environments, and living wages surpassing legislated standards. This marks the start of a ripple effect which begins at Mavuno, emanates into our local communities, and expands into the broader economy.
Responsible Consumption & Production
Kenya’s environment is a natural wonder. We consider our home a rare jewel that must always be protected. Everything we do, every move we make, begins with the seed of sustainability: conserving energy, reducing waste, minimising water use, and decreasing emissions. These are the hallmarks of our entire business model: responsible and eco-minded from end to end. Our frozen range of products is a distinct reflection of our commitment to eliminating food waste and loss by harnessing innovative technologies to greatly enhance shelf-life.
