Anthony has had a green thumb for as long as he can remember. Even during high school, he displayed an uncanny knack for agriculture, putting his class work into practice and mastering the complex art of propagating bananas. This passion for growing and cultivating was no passing phase. It stayed with Anthony for life, ultimately becoming his life’s work.
The founding of Mavuno
Anthony studied a biointensive agriculture and management diploma and soon launched into a thriving career in horticulture. He spent over a decade elbow-deep in Kenya’s horticultural export industry.
During his time in the sector, Anthony recognised that this country’s impeccable climate made it the perfect place for organic produce to flourish. Yet, in 2016, Kenya’s organic produce industry had to find its feet.
Then Anthony’s entrepreneurial spirit took over, and Mavuno Organics was created. The company began with a clear, simple, yet ambitious and audacious vision; to bring value to people and the planet.
From serendipitous meeting to monumental growth
Just as Mavuno was coming to fruition, the stars aligned when Anthony crossed paths with Patrick Struebi. A socially-minded entrepreneur and eminent thought leader, Patrick was seeking an African partner for his company, the Fairtrasa Group, an ethical enterprise designed to help small and marginalised farmers break free of the poverty cycle.
Patrick would prove an endless source of support and inspiration for Anthony’s burgeoning young company as a provider of orders, finance and advice. In those earliest days, while Mavuno awaited its organic certification, he was even a produce provider. With Patrick’s backing (and Anthony’s eternal gratitude), momentum soon grew, and Mavuno bounded from strength to strength.
Anthony and Mavuno today
To this day, Anthony remains integral to the fabric of Mavuno. He plays many roles within the business; from marketing, to business development, to nurturing and growing our network of farmers.
Anthony not only has the vision to conjure bold and innovative ideas, but he also has the analytical, critical, and systems-driven mind to make them a reality. A firm optimist, he chooses not to be inhibited by challenges but to be inspired by them instead.
On the personal side, Anthony has a lifelong love of reading, music, and football. His unshakeable belief in fairness, justice, honesty, and transparency guides everything he does. A champion and advocate for his team, Anthony is a source of endless joy when witnessing Mavuno’s people transform into their best selves, professionally and personally.

Anthony believes the world’s need and desire for healthy, sustainable, ethical produce grows with time. To meet this need, Mavuno aspires to enrich people’s lives with more nutritious and delicious organic fruits and vegetables. All while enriching the lives of the farmers and workers who grow this exceptional harvest.
